This website was inspired by the first few rounds of winners from The Miami Foundation's Public Space Challenge. The annual challenge invites anyone from Miami-Dade County to submit ideas for activating, improving or creating new public spaces.
The Miami Foundation has created this site to assist challenge winners, idea submitters, and anyone seeking to improve public spaces in their community. By providing insight, examples, and guidance on obtaining permits, the Foundation hopes to simplify an often confusing process and help make great spaces happen.
For this site, the permit process for the following places were used as key examples:
- Miami-Dade County
- City of Miami
- City of Miami Beach
- City of Coral Gables
These locations were the most common places for Public Space Challenge ideas in 2013 and 2014, and provide excellent examples of what to expect in any of our 34 municipalities.
If the location you have selected does not fall within these areas, fear not! Here is a contact list for each municipality's permitting department just because we like you so much!
